Saturday morning we are usually all awake (too) early! We have kids who want to enjoy their day to the fullest. And sometimes that stings but most of the time we try to see it as something positive! Enjoy that weekend extra long! Cézanne is already busy with her doll, while the three other bengels wake up quietly with some screen time!
Our first stop on Saturday is usually the library. We take the cargo bike and ride to the beautiful Predikheren in Mechelen at the Dossin Kazerne, where the library is located. The library itself is worth a visit, but the kids also have a blast outside! They can splash in the avenue of water, which provides refreshment in the summer, or just run around and play.
Nobel is still in need of a mid-season jacket, so we make a quick stop at Filou & Friends on the Ijzerenleen. Kristin, the store manager, already knows us well. I usually go shopping without the kids. I know their sizes and usually this goes a lot faster then ;). Kristin is always helpful and thinks about combinations. A pleasant, nice lady who is always ready to help us. Nobel immediately loves the blue teddy jacket! Meanwhile, Babette and Charles can have fun in the ball pool.
Next stop is the Dijle. It is a beautiful river that flows through Mechelen. We pass it at least once every weekend. We love walking along the quay and waving at the boats. We regularly take a boat there ourselves to enjoy Mechelen on the water. The kids love waving to every passerby!
After a pleasant walk around town and a visit to our local favorite stores, it's time for 'a happeke' as the kids say. Our favorite hotspot in Mechelen with kids is 'De Vleeshalle'. This is a large hall where different stallholders offer delicious fresh food, from pizza to ice cream. In short, something for everyone! Very easy to order with a QR code. And best of all: there is a super cute play corner where the little ones can have fun while the parents can quietly enjoy themselves. De Vleeshalle is really a top address in the center of Mechelen!
