Welcome to 'our' Mechelen aka #2800love
Mechelen is a great city to live in, but also ideal for an outing with the kids! We can be found there almost every weekend. Do you have a visit to Mechelen planned? Then be sure to read on and discover our favorite spots in the city!
Saturday morning we are usually all awake (too) early! We have kids who want to enjoy their day to the fullest. And sometimes that stings but most of the time we try to see it as something positive! Enjoy that weekend extra long! Cézanne is already busy with her doll, while the three other bengels wake up quietly with some screen time!
Our first stop on Saturday is usually the library. We take the cargo bike and ride to the beautiful Predikheren in Mechelen at the Dossin Kazerne, where the library is located. The library itself is worth a visit, but the kids also have a blast outside! They can splash in the avenue of water, which provides refreshment in the summer, or just run around and play.
Nobel is still in need of a mid-season jacket, so we make a quick stop at Filou & Friends on the Ijzerenleen. Kristin, the store manager, already knows us well. I usually go shopping without the kids. I know their sizes and usually this goes a lot faster then ;). Kristin is always helpful and thinks about combinations. A pleasant, nice lady who is always ready to help us. Nobel immediately loves the blue teddy jacket! Meanwhile, Babette and Charles can have fun in the ball pool.
Na een wandeling door de stad stoppen we even bij De Bloemerie! Onze favoriete bloemenwinkel in de buurt. Deze bloemenwinkel selecteert atlijd de mooiste seizoensbloemen.
3. Cèpes
Daarna brengen we een bezoekje aan Cèpes voor een kleine lunch. Cèpes is zowel een resto als een traiteur gelegen in het hartje van de Markgravenwijk. Je kan hier terecht voor take away of wandel gewoon binnen voor een snelle lunch ter plaatse. Ook hun terras is de max! Je waant je meteen in het Zuiden van Frankrijk. Tip! Op vrijdagavond organiseren ze hier een gezellige apero met hapjes.
4. Filou & Friends
After a pleasant walk around town and a visit to our local favorite stores, it's time for 'a happeke' as the kids say. Our favorite hotspot in Mechelen with kids is 'De Vleeshalle'. This is a large hall where different stallholders offer delicious fresh food, from pizza to ice cream. In short, something for everyone! Very easy to order with a QR code. And best of all: there is a super cute play corner where the little ones can have fun while the parents can quietly enjoy themselves. De Vleeshalle is really a top address in the center of Mechelen!
5. Café Kamiel + Hof Van Leysen
We eindigen de dag met een bezoekje aan Café Kamiel. Café Kamiel is een super gezellige koffie- en saladbar met een groot zonnig terras. Recht tegenover is er het park Hof Leysen met een speeltuin waar de kindjes vrijuit kunnen spelen en ravotten. Heel gezellig om hier een koffie te drinken terwijl de kids spelen. Tip! Elke donderdag vanaf 17u is het spaghetti avond (spaghetti a volonte!)
